Geologically, Indonesia is a converging point of 3 main tectonic plates that cause the complex geological conditions. However, the condition is an advantage for Indonesia because it produces the geological diversities of Indonesia and many also become a geological heritage because of its value is so meaningful to humans and other living things. This geoheritage must be preserved through various ventures such as the establishment of good governance and regulation.
Based on these conditions, the Geological Survey Center undertook a breakthrough by creating a Technical Standards Guideline for Inventory Geological Diversity and Geological Heritage Identification and Technical Guidance of Geological Heritage Resource Assessment that was officially launched on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Auditorium of Geological Agency, Bandung. These two handbooks, furthermore, are addressed to the relevant Local Government and Educational Institutions whose areas are assessed as having geological heritages. So all processes are not only carried out by the Geological Survey Center, and the process of inventory and the acquisition of geological heritage will run faster.
According to Iman K Sinulingga as Secretary of Geological Survey Center, the presence of those books are expected to increase synergy between the Central Government and Local Government, together with related Universities and Ministries / Institutions in managing geological heritage resources to: ) Accelerate the process of identification of geological heritage resources throughout Indonesia, (2) Present data and information of integrated and accessible geological heritage resources, (3) Realize geological heritage management systems with due regard to sustainability of functions and environment, (4) Increase revenues in sectors tourism with local economic and cultural development, as well as the harmony of spatial planning in an effort to realize sustainable development.
On the same occasion, General Manager of Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu, Budiman, shared his experience of Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu development. According to him, geopark has been proven to have a positive impact on the acceleration of regional development which is seen from the improvement of economic sector and the completeness of infrastructure. He also assured all of the speakers and participants that the cooperation of the local government with the central government and various related agencies is also very important for the sake of the geopark’s development acceleration.
