Belitung Island, with all its geological, biological, cultural and historical treasures is indeed deserved to be cdeveloped into a geopark, even further becoming a UNESCO global geopark, said the Regional Secretary of Bangka Belitung Province at the seminar of the Belitong Geopark Festival at Santika Hotel, Sijuk, Belitung. Since 2009, the Regional Government of Bangka Belitung Province has several agendas related to the development of the geotourism sector. The emersion of geopark concept initiated by Geopark Management Board of Belitung Island is the right momentum to realize the goal in maintaining the nature of Belitung Island and improving people’s economy.

Ella Ubaidi, as an EMR minister in geopark, museum, and infrastructure fielded the central government’s support in developing Indonesian geopark. All of things related to the development of worth-visiting geoparks such as accessibility, amenitas, and attractions are the main focus of government. Geopark visitors are not just regular tourists, but more widely than that, such as researchers, academics, and so on, so other supporting facilities are required to be prepared.
