Belitung Island, with all its geological, biological, cultural and historical treasures is indeed deserved to be cdeveloped into a geopark, even further becoming a UNESCO global geopark, said the Regional Secretary of Bangka Belitung Province at the seminar of the Belitong Geopark Festival at Santika Hotel, Sijuk, Belitung. Since 2009, the Regional Government of Bangka Belitung Province has several agendas related to the development of the geotourism sector. The emersion of geopark concept initiated by Geopark Management Board of Belitung Island is the right momentum to realize the goal in maintaining the nature of Belitung Island and improving people’s economy.
Ella Ubaidi, as an EMR minister in geopark, museum, and infrastructure fielded the central government’s support in developing Indonesian geopark. All of things related to the development of worth-visiting geoparks such as accessibility, amenitas, and attractions are the main focus of government. Geopark visitors are not just regular tourists, but more widely than that, such as researchers, academics, and so on, so other supporting facilities are required to be prepared.

He is also “heating up” stakeholders to participate developing their respective potential. Then Mr. Dr.Ir. Safri Burhanuddin DEA, as Deputy IV for Coordination of Human Resources, Science and Technology and Maritime Culture discussing the ministry’s participation and coordination in developing geopark in Indonesia.
The event continued on the announcement and the determination of 5 new national geopark namely Geopark Belitung, Raja Ampat, Tambora, Maros-Pangkep, and Geopark Bojonegoro. For Geopark Belitung, Raja Ampat, Tambora has been accepted with some notes.
