BANDUNG – Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu, just on Tuesday, Paris, France is officially set to be part of the world’s geopark network or UNESCO Global Geopark. Followed by several delegates from Geopark Management Agency Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu, including Prof. Mega Fatimah Rosana and Dr. H. Ir. Dana Budiman, the endorsement was presented in the 204 Executive Board meeting of Unesco.
The process of establishing Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu into UNESCO Global Geopark (UGG) is fairly fast. Usually the process is taken ten years after the establishment of national geopark. Not without cause, this hard work is done jointly by all related parties, the West Java Provincial Government, the Government of Sukabumi Regency, PT. Bio Farma (Persero), academics, community groups and also many other parties.
Marwan Hamami as the Regent of Sukabumi states that only Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu with the principle of vini-vidi-vici (come-see-win). It only takes about three years to get a certificate and recognition from UNESCO Global Geopark. Regent Marwan hope, this success can generate the southern region of Sukabumi Regency and in the development of geopark will involve the women.
Consideration UNESCO recognizes Ciletuh as the geopark of the world, not without reason. Since the assessment in early August 2017, According to Dana Budiman, Ciletuh has good points in every criteria of the world’s geopark standards. Tourism Minister Arief Yahya has been convinced that the potential of Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu will be recognized as UNESCO Global Geopark (UGG). According to him, three main elements of geopark of the world have been fulfilled in this area, starting from geodiversity, biodiversity, and culture diversity. “The formula of world class destinations is atraction, access, and tourism resource. I see Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhan Ratu already owns it and we hope it will be UGG, “last year at Cimaja Beach, Sukabumi District while attending Amazing Geopark Adventure Tourism activities. In addition to Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu, UNESCO also authorized 12 other geoparks, from 11 countries as UGG, in the same event.
