Many of important CSR programs on community development have been conducted by Bio Farma in 2013-2017 in the National Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu-Palabuhanratu area. Among are introducing the concept of Geopark to the local community, improving the capacity of local communities, clean water pipeline program for the community, providing training and guidance for homestay and local tour guides. In addition, development and promotion of environmentally friendly batik Batik Pakidulan in the country as well as preparations for export markets, preservation of endemic plants, mangroves and coral reefs, and facilitate access to health services and medicines.
Bio Farma participated to the development of National Geopark Area Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Palabuhanratu as one of the efforts to become UNESCO Global Geopark. The company signed an MoU with The Government of West Java Province, the Government of Sukabumi Regency, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, PTPN VIII, Padjadjaran University, PD Jawi, Tourism Activity Group Communication Forum (KOMPEPAR) of Sukabumi Regency, and Paguyuban Alam Pakidulan Sukabumi (PAPSI).
Bio Farma with other stakeholders jointly develops the potential of the area into a similar Ecological Park-Ecological Park of Yosemite National Park and the Colorado River National Park in the United States or better than that. Coordination Team of Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Development is stated in West Java Governor Decree which contains development member from Bio Farma and other stakeholders from Sukabumi Regency, representatives from government, academia, and local community.
“Because of the active role in Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu development, Bio Farma represents Industry, can be trusted and entered into the Coordination Team of Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Development,” said R.Herry, Head of CSR Division, PKBL and EHS PT. Bio Farma. “We hope that support for the development of this community can support the acceleration of West Java Province’s target to prepare Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu to get recognition from UNESCO, as well as being a tourist destination of Wonderful Geopark Indonesia, which also contributes foreign exchange for the country,” he added.
UNESCO Geopark Expert, Prof. Guy Martini, during his visit last year to Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu said that, this Geopark is very potential and could become the third Global Geopark in Indonesia. According to him, from dozens of geoparks in the world, only Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu is fully supported by industry namely Bio Farma which is supported also by a very strong team.
