Indonesia is a collision between Eurasian Continental Plate, Indian-Australian Ocean Plate, and Pacific Ocean Plate, so Indonesia is awarded a unique geodiversity and has great geoheritage potential. An area/region that has geodiversity and geoheritage is very potential to make Geopark. Indonesia currently has 2 UNESCO Global Geopark (Gunung Sewu and Batur) and 4 National Geopark (Toba, Merangin, Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu, and Rinjani), and 15 National Geopark candidates (more information http://geoparks.id/id / map-distribution-members-ign/).

To become a Geopark, a region must follow the rules in each country related to the conservation of a geological resources riches. The Geological Survey Center seeks to revamp the governance of geodiversity inventory, geoheritage identification, and accelerate its activities through the launching catalog are Technical Standards of Geodiversity Inventory and Geoheritage Identification and Technical Guidance of Geoheritage Resource Assessment on Wednesday, November 15th, 2017 in Bandung. The launch event was attended by various stakeholders such as internal Ministry of ESDM, Local Government, Ministry of related, National Commission of Indonesia for UNESCO, College, Geoparks Management, and others.

Technical Guidance of Geoheritage Resource Assessment is a guide in assessing geoheritage sites by looking at their advantages from scientific value, educational value, tourism potential value and risk of damage. With these guidelines the Local Government undertakes self-assessment of potential geoheritage in their respective areas for education, tourism, and spatial planning. Hedi Hidayat hopes that the Technical Standards and Technical Guidance can be realization of geological resource management system including inventory standards, assessment techniques, and evaluation of geoheritage potential, which can further become a reference in the management and utilization of geological heritage potential for the conservation of geology, education, and sustainable economic development. With the system has been built, is expected to increase synergy between the Central Government and Local Government, as well as together College and Ministries/Agencies related to managing geoheritage resources.
