Sukabumi — Sukabumi District Government, accompanied by West Java Provincial Government and other stakeholders, is preparing for Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu assessment by UNESCO. The target, Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu qualify to become the world’s geopark at the end of 2017.
Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu has a short time to prepare for the assessment. Therefore, the Government and stakeholders regularly evaluate the activities conducted by the National Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu Management Team. Later on, a number of issues that will be able to reduce the assessment of UNESCO assessors will soon be fixed or completed.
The construction of infrastructure, facilities and others in the Geopark Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu area will continue to be monitored and evaluated for mutual success. In addition to fixing several physical buildings and supporting assessment in the geopark location, the Government of Sukabumi Regency which was accompanied by West Java Provincial Government is also intensifying socialization to the citizens and government officials.
Sukabumi Regent Marwan Hamami hopes that UNESCO’s assessment in August will be fulfilled. Although not yet reached 100 percent, he added, at least the points that become referrals from the UNESCO team can approach above 80 percent. One of the preparations being focused, Marwan says, is the application of local content curricula (mulok) about geoparks.
